Young Grittleton is a chamber music course designed for string players aged between 11 and 18
Young Grittletons is a chamber music course specially designed for string players aged 11 to 18. Held in the beautiful surroundings of St Mary’s School, Calne in Wiltshire, the course offers young musicians the chance to develop their ensemble skills, explore inspiring repertoire, and work closely with experienced tutors. Each day balances focused rehearsals with coaching sessions that nurture musicality, technique, and communication, giving participants the tools to play with confidence and expression.
Beyond the rehearsal room, the course fosters a warm, supportive atmosphere where students can share their passion for music and make lasting friendships. With opportunities for both formal and informal performances, participants not only gain valuable stage experience but also the joy of making chamber music in a collaborative and encouraging setting. Whether aiming for a career in music or simply wishing to deepen their love of playing, Young Grittletons provides an enriching and memorable experience.
Accommodation and Pastoral care:
Students stay in St Cecilia’s House, a stone built 18th century building with high ceilings and a feeling of airiness. It comprises dorms of differing sizes; some are three bed dorms with largest being a six bed dorm.
During breaks, students have access to a range of school facilities including swimming pool, tennis courts and football pitches.
Key information about the course
To make sure everyone can get the most out of the course, we ask that students are at least Grade 5 standard or above.
The course fee is £535 includes accommodation and full board, coaching and pastoral care.
